Veterans Day Event at Silver Strand

This year’s annual “Silver Strand Honors Its Military Heroes” event took place in conjunction with weekly our Flagpole Assembly on Friday, November 7th.  The assembly began with a tribute for veterans and the school’s many military families by our special guest, Steven Alt, Command Master Chief at Naval Base Coronado.  Former and current School Liaison Officers were introduced as special guests.  The school’s Military Family Life Counselor next explained several projects she had been working on with students and military parents in connection with the event.  These projects included inspiring banners signed by grade level groups of students to be distributed to various area commands and a large “ideal” military base designed and built by members of the Military Kids Club and other interested students.  After the assembly, military families were invited into Strand Hall to see these displays, enjoy breakfast snacks, and have their photographs taken which will be placed as a border around the interactive deployment whiteboard in our Connections Room.  Students in our Ambassador Club helped make the event run smoothly.  Many families and veterans were in attendance, and a memorable time was had by all!
