Silver Strand Students Participated in a Fantastic Bike Rodeo!Posted by: SSES Registrar 4 years, 3 months ago
On February 22nd and 23rd, Silver Strand had a fantastic student showing for its first Bike Rodeo! During PE class students in grades K-3 were instructed in both bike and pedestrian safety. Circulate San Diego’s “Walk this Way” pedestrian safety course covered the 5 steps of crossing the street safely. The San Diego Bike Coalition obstacle course put students’ bike safety skills to the test while teaching them the importance of seeing, begin seen and remaining under control at all times when riding a bike. Students also learned the A-B-C (Air, Brakes, Chain) bike safety check, how to safely stop at an intersection, and participated in a slow and steady turtle race and bike slalom. The students had a lot of fun and left the presentation with a new appreciation for bike and pedestrian safety. We plan to hold this event again next year and to open it up to the higher grades as well.
The Silver Strand PE department would like to thank the parents for helping to make this event a success. Without parents ensuring students arrived at school with bikes and helmets, this event would not have been possible. A BIG thank you goes out to Circulate San Diego, the San Diego Bike Coalition and to Holland Bikes for not only holding a great event, but also supplying extra bikes for our students.
