Silver Strand Celebrates Month of the Military Child!Posted by: SSES Registrar 4 years, 1 month ago
Silver Strand’s Military and Family Life Counselor, Ambassador Club and Student Council members have promoted activities throughout the month to show support for our many military children. Today our students were asked to wear PURPLE in honor of Month of the Military Child Day. On Friday, April 29th, sailors from USS America will come to Silver Strand to hand out dog tags “brag tags” to our military students and we are asking students to wear Patriotic Colors on that day.
During Military Kids Club which takes place during lunch recess on Wednesdays, sailors from USS America have come to Silver Strand, and will continue to come weekly, play with students on the playground and to participate in arts and crafts and games in our Connections Room. They have also volunteered to read books about military themes to the kids during their library time.
Additionally, during our student’s Specials, our MFLC has had a weekly topic that is highlighted on military life and being a military child for the kids to continue engaging in this month.
Finally, on April 19th at 4:00-8:30pm, Silver Strand’s MFLC and the Village’s MFLC are partnering with Kids Turn San Diego to provide an after school class for our military families to discuss the unique similarities and differences that our families experience. Music, games, and free pizza will be provided.
