Renowned choreographer and teacher Deborah Hay famously claimed that “Dance is a political act.” On May 15 & 16, the Coronado School of the Arts Conservatory of Classical and Contemporary Dance brings Hay’s assertion to the stage in Mobilize. Twenty CoSA Dancers perform original dances that explore issues and conditions facing our nation and our world this election year. From climate change to health care, and equal rights to housing, choreographers tackle timely and relevant subjects in movement. Audiences will be inspired by our ensemble of engaged and thoughtful students who offer ideas, solutions, and paths to progress through dance. Of note are new pieces of choreography by Conservatory Director, Gina Bolles Sorensen, and ballet faculty, Trystan Merrick, whose works will be accompanied by a live brass quintet from the CoSA Conservatory of Instrumental Music, directed by Osvaldo Mendoza. Join us for an evening of bold and inspiring dance. Mobilize is on stage at the Coronado Performing Arts Center on May 15 & 16 at 7 pm.
