Welcome Students and Families to Silver Strand Elementary School 2025-26

Jenny Moore, Principal

Welcome, Voyager students and families, to the Silver Strand Elementary School 2025-26 school year!  I am proud and grateful to support our unique, small, and special school in Coronado Unified School District and to serve Silver Strand’s dedicated and inspiring staff, kind and curious students, and generous and involved families and community members.

Coronado Unified School District believes every child every day needs a connection, a challenge, and a champion.  We recognize the importance of each child experiencing strong connections with peers and teachers and prioritize social-emotional well-being.  Our families hail from the neighboring Liberty Military Housing at Silver Strand, the Coronado Cays housing development, as well as neighborhoods in Imperial Beach and San Diego through limited inter-district transfers.  As a Purple Star School recognized for our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families, SSES’s Anchored4Life Student Team Leaders welcome new Voyagers to our school, assist peers with transitions, and sponsor community service projects throughout the year. Our students benefit from the resources of both clinical and Military Family Life counselors and community mentors.

Silver Strand Elementary School offers curriculum, instructional strategies, and resources to meet the needs and styles of diverse learners. Each student is challenged to achieve within their areas of strength and growth with small-group instruction and interventions in language arts and math built into the school day. Supported by the Coronado Schools Foundation, our Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) and Innovation Lab “Specials” courses allow students to discover new areas of interest and excitement in music, art, theatre, dance, computer science, engineering, coding, and robotics. Silver Strand Elementary School is a proud Project Lead the Way Distinguished School, an accolade based on our implementation of hands-on engineering design projects in our Innovation Lab.

At Silver Strand Elementary School we believe it is critical to belong to a safe and supportive community which champions the gifts and contributions of each unique individual and honors diverse backgrounds, values, and perspectives. We emphasize respect, responsibility, safety, and kindness in our classrooms, across campus, and in our community. Our new Second Step social-emotional learning curriculum and Playworks recess programs promote peer support through collaborative problem-solving, coping strategies, mentoring, and teamwork. Through the lens of a growth mindset, we encourage our students to celebrate their leaps in both academics and personal responsibility.

We are proud of our award-winning garden and host a zero-waste sustainability program at breakfast and lunch, part of growing our students’ environmental awareness and responsibility.

Our programs and opportunities are the result of generous community support.  We encourage you to
connect with us and other families through joining and volunteering with our Silver Strand PTO, the Coronado Schools FoundationCoronado Safe Harbor, and in your child’s classroom. Communicate with your child’s teachers and participate in school activities such as our weekly Friday Flagpole assemblies and Family Fun Nights, fairs, and performances.

Invest in and champion your child’s education and personal growth this year by talking with your child about daily learning challenges and experiences, and reading, researching, and exploring together.

We look forward to knowing your children and you.  It’s going to be a wonderful year!
