Enrichment Clubs - Winter 2018
*Please note: If a club is offered to certain grades levels this session, it will most likely switch to accommodate other levels in the next session. Please refer to individual club flyers sent home or the Strand website for the program provider’s details and registration instructions. Some of these new after school clubs are provided & run by independent program providers, approved through Coronado Unified School District and are not supervised or operated by Silver Strand Elementary staff. All registration activities and specific program questions should be directed to the independent program provider. Extra flyers can be found in front office or in Peachjar (via our school website).

NEW! Mad Science – NASA Space Academy’s Future Space Explorers Club
Mad Science includes spectacular demonstrations, hands-on activities, and real world discussions make learning about science fun for kids. The interactive, hands-on, one-hour after school science programs is themed around particular areas of science – this session is all about SPACE! Session begins Jan. 30th – March 13th (Tuesdays) for grades K-3rd only. Please see flyer for registration and payment info, OR, register online at: https://register.madscience.org/sandiego/
NEW! Junior Theatre
San Diego Junior Theatre after school programs enable students to learn and practice a variety of theatre skills (voice, movement, communication, imagination). The program also provides the experience of rehearsing and performing a play. On the final day (March 15th), students will share what they’ve learned during a mini musical performance for classmates & family in Strand Hall! Club begins on Jan. 24th – March 15th (Wednesdays) for K-3rd grades. Please return registration slip and fee (made out to Silver Strand PTO) to the front office. “You’re A Good Man, Charlie Brown!” will be preformed on 3/15 at 10:15am.
Kid Coding Amazing Apps
TGA Premier Golf introduces golf at a young age through programs that provide a fun and enriching experience for children while being a convenient and affordable option for parents. Dedicated coaching staff help students develop their skills and a passion for golf while using the sports as a vehicle for delivering curriculums that are loaded with educational concepts including STEM and life skills such as respect, honesty, perseverance and sportsmanship. Club begins on Jan. 25th – March 1st (Thursdays): K-5th grades this session! Meet on the courtyard fish mosaic at dismissal, classes held on the back field. To register: centralsandiego.playtga.com
Namaste Today Yoga
The mission of Namaste Today is to provide a safe space for children in San Diego schools in
which they are able to breathe, bend, balance, and become focused. Classes held in the PE room. Go to: www.namastetodaysandiego.com to register. (Click on: Register for a Program, Silver Strand) Club begins on Jan. 23rd – March 20th (Tuesdays) for 4th-5th grades this session. Meet on the courtyard fish mosaic at dismissal, held in the PE room.

Flag Football Club
Open to Grades 3-5th, the Flag Football club meets during lunch recess on Mondays, Wednesdays & Fridays. The club goal is for each team to play 7 friendly and competitive games each season. As we are jumping right into games, this club is recommended for students who have some experience with the sport.
Mr. Bachman is organizing the Flag Football League- The schedule, team rosters and game information can be found on the PE bulletin board outside room 502. Students who sign up are expected to commit to an entire season (7 games), exhibit good sportsmanship and fair play on and off the field. CUSD strongly desires to offer all students a comprehensive educational experience. This is why we are excited to offer beginning band to our 4th & 5th grade students at Silver Strand Schools. Students will be given the chance to select from learning to play a variety of musical instruments such as the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone or percussion instruments such as snare drums or orchestra bells. Band instruction takes place before school and meets 2 days per week throughout the school year.
